So you got your license suspended, now what? I’m going to share some thoughts on dealing with your suspension and how to continue to live life as you serve the suspension time.
Suspension on Family
Your not the only one who suffers during your license suspension. Your family and friends are now your main source of transportation, and it’s going to test every relationship you have. You need to remember to be as clear and honest as you can so your family and friends know what to expect, and understand exactly where you stand. Be Honest about your suspension! You have to be honest with your loved ones. You will be counting on them to help you through your suspension time, and they need to know why.
Suspension on Employment
Now you need to explain to your employer what is going on. The big concerns your employer will have is reliability and safety. Give them details on how the suspension started, and what you plan to do in meeting your duties. Put them at ease by detailing your game plan and let them know your not just going to give up. A license suspension is not the end of the world, but it will take work.
Alternative Transportation
Public transportation is great if it’s available. Get to know your transportation schedules and routes. Find out about costs and programs for frequent riders. Weather it’s the bus, trolly, train, or subway, learn the system and don’t be afraid to use it. It will save your life at this time.
Hired transportation like a taxi or shuttle can be used for one time trips, but don’t rely on these for every day transportation. The expense can build up fast and leave you worse than you started. You should still get to know the local taxi service, and save their number for emergencies.
Private drivers are a great alternative if you don’t have public transportation to your job, or if you need more flexibility. The private drivers can get expensive, but do some research and price shop. You may be able to find someone who will drive your car where you need to go for minimum cost, and this can be much less expensive than a taxi or limo service.
